SAW. Our Window to the Womb Services & Your Role

At firstScan & Window to the Womb we offer scans right the way through your pregnancy journey. This section will give you an understanding of the range of packages offered from 16 Weeks+ and what’s included in each package.
It is important that you learn and understand the packages prior to starting your position so you can effectively fulfil your role and correctly advise families when dealing with queries.

Window to the Womb offer all customers a chaperone for any examination and it is expected that the scan assistant be present in the scan room before the sonographer begins the scan. If for any reason a chaperone is declined then it must be explained that the scan cannot take place.

The role of the chaperone in a Window to the Womb scan:

  • To assist the sonographer when completing the well-being checks.
  • To provide comfort and reassurance to the patient and families present in the scan room.
  • To protect the sonographer against any unfounded allegations of inappropriate behaviour and in rare cases. protect the sonographer against any form of attack.
  • To recognise any unusual or unacceptable behaviour by the sonographer.
  • To assist in communication with the patient and their families.
  • To provide excellence in customer service throughout.

Professionalism

  1. We expect you to give your manager plenty of advance notice if you are not able to make a shift. We have to have 3 scan assistants and a sonographer on duty at any time so late notice of absence gives the clinic a huge problem.
  2. We need you to be on time; our customer’s won’t wait!
  3. We expect you to be smart and well-presented when you are working; we are providing a medical service and our customers rightly expect that the clinic and staff will be spotlessly clean and well presented.

Client Feedback

  1. All businesses occasionally fall short of their customer’s expectations of them; what separates the great businesses from the others is the way that they deal with a disappointed or even annoyed customer.
  2. You will be building rapport with the customers and we would therefore expect you to ‘sense’ if there is anything that they are dissatisfied with and try to deal with it there and then. We really don’t want our customers to leave the clinic dissatisfied or disappointed in any way.

Privacy & Discretion

You will be exposed to sensitive and very personal information and we expect you to remain professional in all circumstances. Information must be kept entirely confidential and even a seemingly innocent comment made by you about one of our customers may have serious consequences so what you see/hear in the clinic remains in the clinic please.

Care & Compassion

We sometimes have to give a client the bad news about their pregnancy. Your role in these circumstances is to provide the care and support that the woman and her family need in a sensitive and compassionate way. You are not required to ‘break’ bad news, but to support the sonographer in ensuring the client understands what is being explained to them and that they know what the right next steps are.

First Class Customer Service

Window to the Womb prides itself on the quality and professionalism of the personal service that we provide to our visiting families. Our style is relaxed and friendly and that’s how we expect our sonographers and scan assistants to act. We want every mum to feel relaxed and special. A private scan will be one of the most emotional events in her life and your job is to share the emotion and make the whole experience completely unforgettable. Nothing less that this is acceptable!
