CP2 Who can be a chaperone?

A formal chaperone can be a clinical health professional, such as a nurse, midwife or sonographer. It can also be a non-clinical staff member, such as a receptionist or scan assistant who has an understanding of their role as a chaperone, usually by completing this e-Learning course.

The chaperone has a specific role in the consultation / procedure and this should be made clear to both the client and the person undertaking the chaperone role.

Members of staff who undertake a formal chaperone role must have been trained so that they develop the competencies required. Local chaperone policies should be in place in line with the latest guidance and regulatory advice.
