CP2 Why is a chaperone needed?

Every healthcare organisation that undertakes intimate procedures should have a chaperone policy in place for the benefit of both clients and staff.

Any ultrasound scan can potentially be distressing and can sometimes make clients feel vulnerable.

Client’s can find examinations involving the breasts, genitalia or rectum particularly intrusive (these examinations are collectively referred to as ‘intimate examinations’).

Think about an examination where the lights are dipped (like in a Window to the Womb or firstScan scan room) or where the client may have to partially undress – would you like someone there to protect your dignity and make you feel reassured?
