Always offer a chaperone routinely before conducting an intimate examination. Due to the nature of Obstetric ultrasound, all scans at Window to the Womb and firstScan are considered ‘intimate’.
Some vulnerable patients may also welcome a chaperone, particularly if they have previously suffered abuse.
It is important to note that in the absence of a chaperone (for any reason) during a Window to the Womb or firstScan clinic must result in the scan being abandoned.
