Sometimes, you may feel you have not said the ‘right thing’ straight away, and quickly regret this.

  • If you think this has happened, there is nothing wrong with apologising and acknowledging your own limitations. While you cannot ‘take back’ what you have said, you can convey your positive intentions and your compassion for their situation.
  • If you do this, however, be careful to place the focus on yourself and not the expectant parents or their situation, as this could serve to increase their anxiety.
