Why would a client choose an early pregnancy scan?

There are many reasons for a client wanting an early pregnancy scan:

She may want reassurance because she is anxious to see her developing baby.
She may wish to confirm her dates particularly if she has an irregular menstrual cycle.
She may want to see if her pregnancy is a multiple pregnancy if she has a family history or if she has increased nausea/vomiting.
She may have some abnormal symptoms such as vaginal bleeding and/or abdominal pain.
She may need reassurance following a previous ectopic pregnancy and want to see that the baby has implanted in the uterus.
She may need reassurance following recurrent (2 or more) miscarriages.
She may have had IVF or other fertility treatment so has heightened anxiety and needs reassurance on how her baby is developing. Some women may have travelled abroad for IVF (particularly for donor eggs) and so on return to the UK have no clinic to access scans following their positive pregnancy test.
