This is another important section so make sure you have your notepad ready.
When the scan results are inconclusive
- When the sonographer can only report the scan as inconclusive the the client will need another scan or HCG levels monitoring.
- The chaperone will need to discuss with the clinic manager and arrange an appointment at either the clinic or the woman’s local Early Pregnancy Unit (follow rescan guidelines) either for blood test (within 24 hours) or for repeat scan as per NICE guidelines policy.
- The client and family will be kept in the scan room or if possible a quiet room while arrangements for follow up are made.
- The sonographer will complete the scan report and offer a scan picture. The chaperone will print, ask the sonographer to sign and place the report in the scan folder. The client should also be given contact details for further scans at Window to the Womb.
If a referral is needed
- The clinic manager (or experienced chaperone) should telephone the Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) and give clear details to the specialists.
- The woman’s name, date of birth and if possible NHS number will be needed
- The scan report details should be given along with the sonographer details (it is important that EPU accept the scan report)
- The woman should be given contact details for the clinic and gently advised to share all information in her folder with the EPU.
