Sonographer Care and Compassion

It is the very nature of your role that you will sometimes have to give a client the bad news about their pregnancy. Your role in these circumstances is to provide the care and support that the woman and her family need in a sensitive and compassionate way. You must explain your findings in plain English and work to ensure the client fully understands what is being explained to her.

The scan assistants will support you but are unable to discuss any medical findings.

At no point should you allude to the treatment that will be provided following a referral – this is the role of the NHS where nurses, midwives and a suite of specialists can ensure the care is right for the client. A referral to the NHS is your request for a second opinion to be taken and for the NHS to arrange the appropriate care and treatment.
