As per NICE Guidelines, pre 10 weeks a TV scan is recommended for more accurate diagnostic results. This will be discussed with the client prior to the scan and if consent is given or the TV scan is declined this must be documented on the clients obstetric report.
Please refer to the TV guidance in the materials tab for further information.
During a TV scan the following should be imaged:
The client is provided with one image chosen by the sonographer to take home along with their completed obstetric report. However you may wish to take up to 4 images of the baby as the client may wish to take away more.
Please note the client must not take any images away with medical information such as baby measurements noted. The client is also offered a short video ‘clip’ to take away digitally as a keepsake however this should be separate to the scan footage including medical information and is an optional additional to the package.
If a second non viable gestation sac is detected it should be measured and documented +/- a CRL measure.
If an area of hemorrhage is detected it should be measured and documented. Neither of these require a referral to EPU.
