SI. The Referral Process – Reasons for Referral

This module gives you a brief overview detailing potential reasons for referral as listed on the Fetal Abnormality policy.

6-15+6 Weeks

  • Intrauterine Fetal Demise (IUFD)
  • Ectopic Pregnancy – Emergency Policy must be followed
  • Pregnancy of Unknown Location (PUL) – No confirmed gestation sac with yolk sac and/or embryo.
  • Inconclusive Scan – Gestation sac >25mm
  • Confirmed Miscarriage – CRL >7mm with no fetal heartbeat
  • Suspicion of Molar Pregnancy
  • Suspected Fetal Abnormality – See Fetal Abnormality policy.

16 – 40 Weeks

  • Intrauterine Fetal Demise (IUFD)
  • Polyhydramnios – Single deepest cord free pool >80mm
  • Oligohydramnios – Single deepest cord free pool <20mm
  • Breech Position – After 36 weeks
  • Undiagnosed Low Lying Placenta – After 34 Weeks
  • Suspected Small for Gestational Age (SGA) – On or below 10th centile
  • Suspected Large for Gestational Age (LGA) – On or above 95th centile
  • Suspected Fetal Abnormality
